The new house was smack dab in the middle of the forest. It was a beautiful property, yet peculiar, in a slithery sort of way. Within the first two weeks of moving in, there had been four snake sightings. How distressing it was to see a five foot snake travel by, during a quick glance out a bedroom window!😲 And, how startling to stumble upon the one sunning in the yard.😳 Not to mention the surprise of the one under the pot on the patio and the other one that was slowly crossing the road. 😬 Aye Yai Yai! Enough was enough. This had to STOP!
How do we fight our battles? Not with a hose!🤣 Did you know snakes puff up and get even bigger when they feel threatened? 😅 Or, that they actually enjoy being squirted with water on a hot summer day? Seriously!😂 I’m thankful for my granddaughter’s play set in the yard, which proved to be a safe fortress and look out tower to spy on them and check for diamonds on their backs!!! 🤣 🤣🤣 Praise the Lord, there were none!🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
God’s Word tells us we are to fight our battles by prayer. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”So, the prayers went out for those slithery snakes to leave and not be allowed in our living space, along with a prayer covering of Psalm 91, the prayer of protection, in Jesus name.🙏🏻🕊️🤍
Full disclosure here, I detest snakes. 🫣I don’t like anything about them, and I especially dislike the element of surprise they bring with them. Even though I had prayed the snakes away, there was still a constant darting of the eyes, peeking around corners, and scanning the ground with every step, in addition to avoiding areas prone to attract snakes. If I was trusting that the Lord had removed the snakes, I needed to push forward in faith. And that meant, facing the fear. I needed to get back in the saddle, or in this case, back outside!
Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the assurance of a thing hoped for, the conviction of things not being seen.” The essence of walking in faith is the element of trusting Christ for the unknown outcome of a situation in our lives. When we step out in faith it can certainly feel scary. Trusting, believing, and having faith all go hand in hand. Isaiah 26:3 tells us that when we trust in Him, He gives us perfect peace.
And, so it began. With each venture out to work in the yard, with each log I moved, and each tarp I lifted, I thanked the Lord for sending those snakes away and for giving us a safe haven of a home! I am happy to say, we have gone through the entire summer and now into fall, so nearly six months, and there have been no further snake sightings. Praise the Lord! God is so Good and Faithful!
Funny thing, I did run into some large alligator lizards that resembled snakes with legs! I had to laugh, as I thanked the Lord that even though it was a reptile, it certainly was NOT a snake! It was like a little funny from the Lord! Surprise! Just a lizard, haha!
